My Precious Delights

There’s an inspiring worship song that was popular in the 1990s. I still love that song: “My Delight,” composed by Andy Park.

Father, You are my portion in this life; And You are my hope and my delight. And I love You, Yes I love You, Lord I love You, my delight

Jesus, You are my treasure in this life; And you are so pure and so kind
And I love You, Yes I love You, Lord I love You, my delight

Spirit, You are my comfort in this life; And I need Your presence day and night
And I love You, Yes I love You, Lord I love You, my delight

Yes, God has been, is, and will be my delight forever! But I have other delights in my life.

Praise the Lord! Rejoice with me that as of July 1, 2015, I have entered into the eighth year of my pastoral ministry here with you at First United Methodist Church of National City! My family and I are so blessed by each and every one of you in Christ! It has been an amazing faith journey with you, sharing all kinds of joys and blessings, and striving to be a faithful and fruitful congregation. I am confident that we will continue to grow, nurture, and witness together with God’s love in the community while embracing the world. You are my treasured brothers and sisters and friends in Christ! Yes, you, the Church Family, are my precious delight! (If you are reading this article – yes, of course, you are included!)

I love my family, and am so much blessed by God through my family – my beloved wife Kwang Jin, and my two lovely daughters, Deborah and Esther! What a joy that, this year, my wife and I are celebrating our 30th Anniversary of our Marriage Covenant this year! It was only possible by God’s amazing grace that we have been able to keep our Marriage Covenant for 30 years. Hopefully and prayerfully, we will go for another 30 years in God’s care and love! I love my wife and give thanks to God for who she is. She is my precious delight!

This year, my younger daughter Esther graduated from high school, turned 18, and will be attending UCSD (University of California San Diego) this coming fall. She has turned out to be an amazingly talented and sweetest young woman! Time seems to have been flying double time to me! Another joy is that after finishing graduate school, my older daughter Deborah is thriving in Indiana, working as a Creative Director. She recently married a wonderful man, Justin, who she met in the Creative Writing MFA Program. We are happy for their new life journey. What an exciting year for my two daughters! Yes, my family is my precious delight!

I am so grateful to God for both my mother and mother-in-law. My mother, age 85, is now living with my oldest sister in Los Angeles. Even though my father, who was a pastor, passed away nearly 40 years ago in Korea, my mother has been my delight my whole life! My wife is taking care of her mother now at home, and since she moved in with us 7 years ago, she has been greatly supporting us in many ways. Both of them pray for me, my family, and my ministry every day for God’s blessings and guidance. They are my precious delights as well!

Yes, I am truly blessed by God through my church family, my own family – not to mention to all my relatives and friends. They are all my treasures. I can joyfully say to everyone in my life: “I love you all, my precious delights!” Thanks be to God!
